Disclosure

I’m writing this disclosure to appease the FTC’s new rules for bloggers. Nessmuking.com, primarily written and published by Bryan Hansel (me), tries to “monetize” (i.e. make money) in several different ways, like via advertisement, both paid and third-party, and affiliate marketing.  Why? Because I want to make money doing what I love. If you can help me think of other ways to make money, like direct donations or the “Buy Me a Beer” links at the bottom of the articles, via Nessmuking.com, please, email me at bryan@bryanhansel.com.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing on Nessmuking.com works like this: When it makes sense to include a product in an article, and I (or a guest author) like the product, I include it. I link to that product at one of the sites that I’m affiliated with (If a link is missing, I probably messed up. Please, let me know so I can fix the situation). Buying from the link benefits all the parties:

  1. Because I sent you to a site I’m affiliated with, I earn a commission on the sale. Earning money allows me to keep this site running, motivates me to write more, helps me buy a little more paddling gear, and makes me happy and appreciative.
  2. You have a direct link to a product that I wrote about in the article you just read and by buying from the link you can contribute materially to Nessmuking.com. It doesn’t cost you anything extra.
  3. The retailer makes money from the sale that might have gone elsewhere.

Recommended Product Menu

Another way Nessmuking.com uses affiliate links is via the Recommended Product menu. From there you can buy equipment that I think is cool, like stoves, water filters, and dry bags. This works the same way. If you buy from the link, you help Nessmuking.com by allowing me to make a small commission from the sale. It doesn’t cost you anything extra.

Various Links

You may also see various links around the site, like the one to Blue Host, my hosting company. If you’re looking to host a website, consider them, because I use them and like them. If you set up your account by following my link, I earn a referral fee, and it doesn’t cost you anything more than a normal sign-up. You could also buy from Amazon by starting on this link. Sometimes I earn commission there too. If you want to get involved in advertisement on your blog, check out Chitika. If you sign up, I earn a referral fee. Or something like this link Click here to visit Sanborn Canoe Co. I earn a commission from them.

Evaluation Products

Occasionally, a company will send me a free product to evaluate. I may write a review about the product or mention the product. When I do you can count on it being an unbiased opinion. If I like the product, I’ll tell you. If I don’t, I either won’t publish a review or I will tell you in the review.

Help Me

If you want to help me further and have a product you want to buy, email me at bryan@bryanhansel.com to ask for a buying recommendation. I’ll try to send you a link to a retailer that carries the product.

Thank You

Basically, I try to make money from Nessmuking.com, because I want to make money doing what I love to do. This type of marketing allows that. I’m not going to get rich or even be able to support myself on what I earn from it, but I can always dream.

Thank you for your support, and, please, buy from the links on this site.

About

Nessmuking.com is named after Nessmuk—the pen name of George Washington Sears. In the 1880’s, Sears wrote about lightweight canoe travel, self-direction, and environmentalism.

Nessmuking.com offers information about lightweight canoe and kayak travel. We promote self-direction by emphasizing the do-it-yourself culture, and we believe growing paddlesport participation advances wilderness protection.
